Sea Limited is a global consumer internet company founded in Singapore. The company operates three core businesses across digital entertainment, e-commerce, as well as digital payments and financial services, known as Garena, Shopee, and SeaMoney, respectively. Shopee is one of the largest pan-regional e-commerce platforms in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. The highly scalable marketplace platform is social-focused and mobile-centric with integrated payment and logistic infrastructure and comprehensive seller services. Shopee sellers are primarily small and medium business, as well as individuals. Garena is a global online games developer and publisher, primarily focused on offering mobile and PC online games. The games consist of self-developed games and games licensed from third party developers. In addition, SeaMoney is a leading digital payments and financial services provides in Southeast Asia.

Sea generates revenue from its digital entertainment business by selling in-game items. The revenue from this business accounted for 46.1% of the total revenue in 2020. The company monetizes Shopee’s marketplace model mainly by offering sellers paid advertisement services and charging transaction-based fees. This revenue constituted 40.6% of the total revenue in 2020. Total revenue increased by around 100% from $2.1 million in 2019 to $4.3 million in 2020. The increase was primarily due to increases in revenue from e-commerce business and digital entertainment business. Sea had a net loss of $1,624.2 million in 2020. Sea’s shares rose by more than 282% within one year.
